Mapping the World of Women's Information Services
As from February 2006, the Mapping the World database will be available on CD-Rom. The database consists of about 400 women’s information services around the world and is updated weekly. The idea for developing a CD-Rom came when the IIAV evaluated the use of the database among gender officers in government institutions around the world. Respondents from Africa overwhelmingly said they would use the database if it was on CD-Rom. For those without Internet access, downloading the database was simply not viable, so effectively they had no access to the information.
Distribution of the CD-Rom
The IIAV will provide free CD-Roms to
partners in the Mapping the World database. We invite and encourage
institutional partners to order copies and distribute them within their
communities and networks. The CD-Rom can be ordered at a minimum of 25 copies,
at a cost price of € 15- per copy. This includes a free update after one year.
The CD-Rom is printed on demand, so the information is always up-to-date at the
time of shipment.
The library of the Royal Tropical Institute in the
Netherlands, an institute aimed at contributing to sustainable development,
poverty alleviation, cultural preservation, and exchange has already ordered 400
